Careers in Scuba – Seattle
Students will begin with an orientation to the GirlDiver program, our philosophy of instruction and making diving fun, and if new to diving in cold water, we’ll go for a couple dives to acclimatize. After a few days of fun diving we jump right into practicing local rescue techniques and familiarizing yourself with the local hospitals, re-compression chamber and transportation routes before beginning the career path program.
The SSI Dive Leader course is divided into three levels.
Dive Guide - This is the dive leader you’ll see on the boats in Hawaii. You’ll be trained to take certified divers on guided tours and be able to earn a living in the tropics, or lead Discover Northwest Dive excursions here at home.
Divemaster – At this level, the Divemaster can do everything a Dive Guide can, but is also able to assist the instructor with duties in a setting with uncertified divers.
Dive Con - This is the industry equivalent of an Assistant Instructor. At this level, the professional can do everything a Divemaster can, but can also teach a number of specialties, lead Scuba Rangers and do Scuba Skills Updates with certified divers. This is the level that offers the most opportunity to earn money as a dive professional in the pre-Instructor series.
Instructor – You can now teach people diving! You’ll start as an Open Water Instructor with the ability to teach new divers to dive and to see the amazement in their eyes as you open up the underwater world to them.
With our affiliation of 2700 dive centers worldwide, we’ll assist you in putting a career together…just as you want it. We’re about making dreams into realities.
